“Golden Pear” 5 x 6″ oil on card by Martin Gardner

This painting is on Ebay now. For a list of my current Ebay auctions, please click here.

Pears look like people, don’t you think? This one seems to have a bellybutton. I’m not sure why pears are more people-like than other fruits, but it certainly seems to be true.

Back in college, gessoed card was what we painted on all the time. We used rabbit skin glue to size the paper (Arches watercolor in this case) and thankfully, now there is acrylic gesso to size and prime the paper in one step. (Two steps if you count both coats. Three steps if you count the first oil painting layer.)

Red Berries and Chinese Bowl by martin Gardner, 8 x 5″, oil on card

I remember back in school that many of the students were flummoxed at how to paint leaves. I always thought of them like ballerina hands. They have an elegance, a drama to them. It’s true that the coloration can be a bit tricky, but when they’re done they really add something to the piece, I think. I really enjoyed painting the reflections in the shiny wood too!

“Watching the World Outside” 6 x 5″ oil on card by Martin Gardner

Now that the squirrels are losing their minds outside before winter hits, the cats can’t stay away from the windows. They’re tearing through the house like their tails are on fire! It’s pretty funny to watch.

I got a mailing list thing together. I hope you will consider signing up for it. I’ll send out weekly emails with news and so forth. Thank you!

There are still a few roses clinging to life outside, along with some chrysanthemums, asters, and various berries. I thought I should get them into the house before they were gone!

I think I will not be getting the hang of taking these pictures. My neighbor tried to show me but the glare on the wet paint never seems to go away. I hope this is effective. Then again, whoever buys the painting will get a pleasant surprise.

“White Gourd, Bowl, and Maple Leaf”, 8 x 2.75″, oil on wood by Martin Gardner

This painting is for auction on Ebay. Click here to bid.

We always called the pumpkin-shaped gourds “pumpkins” but I guess they’re really just gourds. The squirrels have just about demolished the actual pumpkins I left on the porch, but these I kept safely inside so they were safe!

“Fall Splendor”, 8 x 5.5″, oil on wood

Thank you for looking at my first blogging! This is a beautiful leaf that I found on the sidewalk this morning. Now SOLD.

I hope to upload new paintings every week. I hope you will excuse my Internet ignorance. My young neighbor friend is helping me get paintings onto this site.

Thank you and I look forward to our communication.
